Execution
Execution without forethought is like driving at night with your lights off. While basic planning can turn on the "low-beams," bringing the future to the present, is a "high beam" solution. It can extend your visibility and provide insight into things yet to come.
  • Start with the end in mind: Develop a clear picture of what you want to achieve & plan backwards from future to present. Articulate in as much detail as possible what it is you want.
  • Ask "Then what?" to turn intentions into predictable results.

Expected Results
Bringing the "future to the present" is a powerful way to increase effectiveness. By taking ownership and altering your timeline, you put the issue of fate more in your control. Using this technique, it is possible to achieve:
  • More effective communication of goals and expectations
  • More effective planning
  • A perspective that can differentiate "urgent" from "important" items. This can transform critical path nightmares that push out end dates, critical deliverables, and can leave colleagues and customers in a bind; into manageable issues.
