PLX Technology has announced its newly packaged PLX(r) NET2272 USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Peripheral Controller for mobile phones and other portable applications. The NET2272 now features the smallest, fastest and lowest-power operation in the industry, making it ideal for use in next-generation portable devices such as rich-content mobile phones, PDAs and media players.

The majority of mobile phones today support a Full-Speed USB connection, a standard popular in transferring contact data, calendar information and digital photos between a handheld device and a PC, as well as using a mobile phone as an internet gateway for a laptop computer. Additionally, mobile phones continue to incorporate rich content such as high-resolution photos, videos and MP3 files. Furthermore, network speeds are improving dramatically. These myriad developments have created a strong demand for faster transfer mechanisms between handheld devices and PCs.

The NET2272 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Peripheral Controller addresses this demand, delivering 40 times the transfer speed of Full-Speed USB, providing compatibility with existing Full-Speed USB software and leveraging its already-wide deployment in a range of applications such as portable media players, printers and digital camcorders.
