"Bleeding Edge Technologies"
"Leading edge" technologies are those just beginning to be adopted by mainstream users. Users far ahead of the mainstream are involved with the "Bleeding Edge." They're working, sometimes pioneering the finishing touches of technologies that are close, but not quite ready for mainstream applications.
Over the past several years, perhaps due to economic times, a new "Edge" has come along and it can be just as sharp, powerful, and painful. One which Bottom Line Technologies calls "The Rusting Edge." These are technologies who's time has come and almost past. If not for a lack of a replacement, technologies that would, some would suggest, should, have long faded away.
Rusting edge technologies are all around us. Rotary Dial phones, Analog (1G) cell phones, and AM Radio are but a few common examples. Do they work? Absolutely. Could they be technically eclipsed by today's technology? Yes. However, for good reasons and bad, they're still hanging on.
